I have really enjoyed giving speeches this season, not because the topic is new to me, but because I can see a trend shift in the audiences when engaging with them. It seems we are entering into a state where more and more people leave some old perceptions behind and start approaching the opportunities in a new way.
I don’t experience so much resistance anymore when discussing why we should use social media more in a professional context. There seems to be a broader understanding of why it is important to understand and use various tools for various purposes when building a business, leading a team or attracting new talents to the organization. We simply need to listen, be and interact where our stakeholders hang out.
But it’s not enough to understand WHY. The big challenges remain the same as previous season:
The answer to these 3 questions might very well form the essence of new policies and guidelines to support leaders and employees when building a trustworthy presence online that fully corresponds with their presence face-to-face.
This might prove more difficult than understanding the written and unwritten business conduct guidelines from the past – the threats – and the opportunities are so much bigger due to transparency and pace of communication. Are you up for moving your front and claiming your digital spot in 2013?
