There seems to be a perception among many leaders and ambitious entrepreneurs that social media may not be significant in their business, industry or professional relationships in general.
Here are some examples of phrases I pick up over and over again:
“If I was recruiting, I would definitely use it”.
“If my customer expects me to, I will”.
“When I need a new job, I know I need to”.
It’s time to be make a few, bold statements:
- We are ALWAYS part of employer branding activities, whether we assume a formal recruitment role or an informal ambassador role.
- Our customers, and our customers’ customers ALREADY expect us to engage via social media to inspire them.
- If you put your social media efforts on hold until you need a new job, it’s too late. Employers and potential clients are looking for TRUSTWORTHY digital footprints, not ad hoc campaigns.
So, what are the implications of this?
It is high time to consider social media engagement part of business as usual. People make business with other people, not other businesses. Long term relationships maintained through social media as well as traditional media will proved to be the golden combination for new and exciting business
opportunities.
You are aware that the talented job candidate, the potential customer and the interested business partner are checking you out digitally as you are reading this, right?
